Ogham, pronounced ogam, is an Early Medieval alphabet used primarily to write the Old Irish language. Ogham is often referred to as the "Celtic Tree Alphabet" and is based on a Bríatharogam tradition ascribing names of trees to the individual letters. While the origin of Ogham will now forever remain a mystery, one theory is that it comes from the Irish og-úaim 'point-seam', referring to the seam made by the point of a sharp weapon.
